The Grand Chamber of the European Court of Human Rights decided that the application of doctrine 197/2006, known as the Parot doctrine, retroactively applied by the Spanish courts, violated the Human Rights Convention, after which the Spanish National Court decreed the release of several prisoners who were still imprisoned under thi doctrine; among them some members of the separatist armed group ETA.
