Basque writer Bernardo Atxaga, pseudonym for Joseba Irazu Garmendia, works at the Basque city of Donostia, Basque Country. Bernardo Atxaga was born in 1951 in the Basque town of Asteasu. His first short story, Ziutateaz ("About The City") was published in 1976 and his book of short stories, Obabakoak ("Individuals and things of Obaba"), published in 1988 has been translated into more than 20 languages.
